Who is Kerry Day Arts?

Hello I’m Kerry

and I’m a one woman business owner living in Bristol, U.K, creating colourful botanical limited edition Lino prints, black and white Lino prints, botanical metal sculptures and greeting cards, all based around my love of my house plants: from architectural leafy plants, spiky cacti to juicy succulents.

How Did it all Begin?

Originally from London I moved to Bath in 1994 to do a Ceramics degree at Bath Spa University College. When completed I decided to stay in the South West and I eventually moved to Bristol at the end of 1999 and have been here ever since.

I started being a full time artist back in 2006, and at that time I was mainly painting figurative work. Which I enjoyed at the time but after a while I lost interest in it and got more into printmaking. I began with etching, then onto screen printing and then finally on to Lino printing.

It was several years ago that I had bit of a creative block and just decided to do a Lino print of one of my many plants and I haven't stopped creating botanical prints. You may have guessed but I absolutely love my plants. I have over 100 of them dotted about my flat and in my studio. Some might ask where I fit them all and I will always find space for more. In my opinion there is no such thing as too many plants.

In 2011 I completed a MA in Multi-disciplinary Printmaking course at the University of the West of England. It was during this time that my confidence really grew. I met some lovely people, learnt a lot and took part in several group exhibitions.

During this time I began teaching classes in Lino printing. This was something I never thought I would ever do, but someone saw my potential and offered me regular classes at Spike Print Studio. I now teach regular lino printing classes and workshops at Bristol Folk House and film online tutorials which you can see over on my YouTube channel.

Where am I now?

I now have a lovely studio space at Document Studios, which is on the first floor of a converted warehouse in the St Jude’s area of the city. It’s in a huge room that used to house documents for an insurance company. This is where I create all of my colourful botanical Lino prints and metal sculptures.

When I’m not making…..

I love to bury my face in my cat’s Maris fluffy fur, reading actual physical books (I’m particularly into crime), watching Death in Paradise (told you I was into crime) and listening to cheesy 80s/90s pop n rock and I especially love listening to Queen and classic Madonna on full blast.
